Sanders Funeral Care - KingmanJoyce Darlene (Barton) Birge, age 84 of Veedersburg, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at the Waters of Covington. She was born in Crawfordsville on December 18, 1940 to the late Charles Harvey and Edna Lucille (Ray) Barton.
Joyce graduated from Waynetown High School in 1958. On March 1, 1959 she married Billy Birge in Crawfordsville; he preceded her in death on January 17, 2004. Throughout the years she worked at Wal-Mart Pharmacy Warehouse in Crawfordsville, Med-line in Covington, Steel Grip in Kingman, she was the donut lady at the Veedersburg Food Basket, and then after retirement returned to work at McDonalds in Attica. She enjoyed bowling and was in a bowling league, enjoyed sewing, playing cards, riding the Gold Wing with her husband, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.
She is survived by her son, William (Cheryl) Birge of Cates; three grandchildren, Carmine Birge of Lafayette, Shane (Jessica) Birge of Hillsboro, and Megan Gaylor of Lafayette; seven great grandchildren, Alexander, Zavior, Pamela, Jasmine, William, Thomas, and Elizabeth; three siblings, Evelyn Swank, Harvey (Carol) Barton and Joe (Sharon) Barton, all of Crawfordsville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy Birge; a daughter, Trixie Carter; a sister, Clara Jane "Janie"; and a great grandson, Alexander.
Cremation was chosen with a Graveside Service at Kingman Fraternal Cemetery on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in her memory to Hope Springs Safe House, PO Box 244, Attica, IN 47918. Sanders Funeral Care entrusted with care.
