Joyce Carter Darby died on October 28, 2024 at the age of 89. Born in Hull, Georgia on August 4, 1935 and grew up in Colbert (Madison County, GA) to the late Thomas Grady Carter and Nancy Elizabeth Brown Carter.
Joyce graduated from Colbert High School where she loved and played sports. She was on the varsity basketball team and a cheerleader. Joyce graduated from Massey Business College in Atlanta and started her career in banking. Most of her later banking career was at Farmer's & Merchant Bank in Fayetteville and she retired in 1991. Joyce was a strong advocate for all Mark's sports he was involved in and attended all practices and games. Growing up in the suburbs of Athens, GA she loved the Georgia Bulldogs and was a diehard Braves fan and never missed a game on TV.
Joyce was a loving and dedicated wife to the late Jerry Leigh Darby who died in 2012. They were married for 57 years.
Joyce is survived by her one son, Jerry Mark Darby, (wife) Donna Petrilli Darby, (two grandsons), Michael Christian Darby and Matthew Jacob Darby.
Joyce had a close family of 10 brothers and sisters. She is survived by
one sister, Doyle (Dot) Shivar and one brother Joe Carter, (wife) Malcolm, sister-in-law Hollene Darby (Walter) and brother-in-law David Darby (wife) Judy.
She had a loving close family of many wonderful nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
Joyce was also preceded in death by her brothers Leon Carter, Ralph Carter, John Carter, Bobby Carter and sisters Mary Berryman, Virginia (Jenny) Berryman, and Betty Jean Guenther.
Joyce was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church (Fayetteville, GA) for 55 years and a member of the Praise Sunday School Class.
Visitation November 3, 2024 from 1:00-3:00 pm and funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home 8355 Senoia Road (Hwy 74) Fairburn.
