In Loving Memory of Joyce Fajna
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Fajna, who left us on April 15th, 2025 at the age of 85. Born on February 26th 1940 in Alexandria VA, she was the third of 6 children and a lifelong Virginian. Upon graduating from George Washington HS in 1959, she entered the insurance industry as a secretary in downtown DC. She met and married her husband, Emil Fajna (preceded by death in 2013) and the two were married in May of 1962. After a brief stint in NJ and their first son's (Michael) birth, the young family moved back to Alexandria where Mark & Nancy were born. The family eventually settled in Woodbridge in 1969 and joined Grace Lutheran Church in 1970.
Joyce continued to work in the insurance industry and joined a State Farm agency in Marumsco plaza & worked there for 34 years. She started out as a secretary but obtained her agent license and was able to sell health and life insurance policies. Joyce's tenacious and friendly personality contributed to her success as an agent. She won many top seller awards and even earned commission on her sales.
Among her many other passions, Joyce enjoyed serving on the Altar Guild for 24 years & the Fellowship committee for 9 years at Grace. She was a ferocious reader and loved James Patterson and Fern Michaels novels. Most recently, she devoured the House Maid series. She was affectionately known as either "Mook" or "Grammy" and loved her 5 grandchildren. Joyce was a lover of all dogs and doted on Dakota, Brutus and most recently Ruby.
Joyce was an avid sports fan and loved the Washington Commanders football team. Every Sunday you could hear her singing the fight song up and down E street and always wearing a Redskins sweatshirt.
Joyce is survived by her three children, Micheal (Carina), Mark (Alexis) and Nancy (David). And her five grandchildren, Danielle (Henry), Matthew, Mark, Camille & Claudia; and great grandson Henry.
A funeral service will be held on Monday April 28th at Grace Lutheran Church on Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge at 11:00 with lunch afterwards. Those who wish to pay their respects are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Grace Lutheran church, honoring Joyce's generous spirit and lifelong commitment to her faith.
Rest in peace, Joyce/Mook/Grammy. Your light will continue to shine in the lives of all you touched.

I always remember visiting Aunt Joyce growing up. She used to have me in stitches from the time I arrived to the time I left. She´s reunited with her family now.
