Joyce Hobson-Simmons

Ms. Joyce Hobson-Simmons, 75, a well-known resident of Stuart, FL transitioned peacefully from earth to eternal rest on April 13, 2023, at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, FL.
She was born in Riverhead/Long Island, NY- the oldest child and only daughter of 7 children born to Nathan and Ada Hobson.
She graduated from Central High School in Paterson, NJ.
She worked for The Port Authority of NY/NJ.
She moved to Florida and graduated from FAU with a degree in accounting, eventually opening her own accounting firm in Stuart, FL.
Joyce was elected to the Board of Education for the Martin County School District.
She served on numerous boards and committees, including the Board of Directors for IRCC and The Bank of Indiantown.
She moved to Tallahassee and began working as the Director of Administration for the Florida Dept. of Education under Frank Brogan. She remained with the department for several years until she retired.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; Nathan and Ada Hobson; a loving husband, Leroy Simmons, Jr.; mother and father-in-law, Leroy Simmons, Sr. and Margaret Simmons; her only son Victor Leroy Hobson-Simmons, (although he did not precede her in death, he passed away just eight days after she did).
Survivors include: a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Hobson-Simmons of Port St. Lucie, FL; a stepson, Leroy Simmons, III (Shari) of Plainfield, NJ; 3 brothers, Nathan Hobson of Indianapolis, IN, Danny Hobson of Indianapolis, IN, and Kim (Evelyn) Hobson of Lorton, VA; grandchildren, Justin (Taryn) Simmons of Castle Rock, CO. Nate (Shelby) Simmons of Danville, KY and Tristan Simmons of Port St Lucie, FL: 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly.
Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart, FL.
