The funeral service for Joyce Mentzer, 87, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 2:00pm, Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, with Pastor Nicole Martin officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Joyce died Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
Visitation will be 3:00-7:00, Wednesday, with family present from 5:00-7:00pm. A prayer service will be held at 5:00pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.
Joyce Lorenz was born in Java, SD on August 9, 1938, to Emanuel and Mary (Kranzler) Lorenz. She grew up in Java area and attended farm school near Java.
On September 16, 1956, she married Clarence Schlepp. They made their home on a farm northeast of Java. They had three daughters.
She moved to Aberdeen in 1970. She was employed at Sands Motel part time, and later was employed at News Printing for a short while. After that she was employed by Hayes Brothers Printing for about 20 years while working at the Capitol Theatre. After Hayes Printing sold to Quality Quick Print she remained employed for five years before she retired on January 1, 2001. She enjoyed music, bowling, playing games, puzzling, and going on vacations.
On September 8, 1983, she married Robert Mentzer.
Grateful for having shared Joyce's life are her three daughters: Sandy Lorenz, Beaver City, NE, Rita Boynton, of Aberdeen, SD, and Sheila (Mike) Noble, of Rapid City, SD; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one sister, Irene Kaiser of Aberdeen, SD and numerous extended family.
Preceding Joyce in death are her parents, husband, Bob Mentzer; five sisters, and three brothers.
