Joyce Postema

Joyce Sharon Postema passed away March 1, 2024 at the age of 95. She grew up in the Spring Lake and Grand Haven areas of Michigan and spent the majority of her married life in Muskegon, retiring in Bear Lake, Michigan. Joyce was the homemaker extraordinaire, besides cooking, knitting, sewing curtains, and clothes for herself and her daughter (including prom gowns), she also reupholstered furniture and refinished wooden furniture. She and her first husband Gale built 2 homes together, she painted walls, wallpapered, and finished the trim work throughout each house. She liked antiques and filled her homes with antique furniture and artifacts. Those that visited couldn't forget the patchwork carpeting in the basement made from various size and colored pieces. Her home was always sparkling clean, void of every dog hair from the beloved dogs. She was well known for her Christmas cheeseballs, baked beans and parties following home (Reeths-Puffer) football games. She loved the beach, growing up in Grand Haven with her friends, taking her children to Duck Lake State Park, and sitting on the edge of Bear Lake or Harper Lake. Joyce would light up when her grandchildren and great grandchild came to visit and
loved to dote on them. Ed and Joyce had a bunk house built where the children could come in off the lake and continue to play inside damp and sandy. It was a great place for them to spend the night together. Joyce loved dogs and they were fond of her. Treats were often involved. Many dogs were Black Labrador Retrievers until one white Maltipoo came along. Joyce loved to shop for antiques, clothes, nick knacks, or food, when younger she walked so fast from store to store, she was hard to keep up with. Even at 95 she had stacks of catalogs to shop from. She was known for her laugh, kind of a cackle that was one of a kind.
Joyce was preceded in death by her Husbands Gale Bolthouse and Edward Postema, granddaughter Laura Kluko, and stepson Russel Postema.
Joyce is survived by sister Nicki Darien, son Mark Bolthouse, daughters Kristine (Bolthouse) Kluko, Cindy (Postema) Vandenberg, grandchildren Jade Babcock, Daniel Kluko, Olivia Bolthouse, Tigran Bailey, Jory Bailey and great granddaughter Elliel Babcock.
A private service will be held at gravesite in Spring Lake Cemetery. Arrangements by Jowett Family Funeral Home of Benzonia
