Joyce Louise (Waggoner) Priest after extended hospitalization came home under hospice care. On Wednesday, January 3, 2024, Joyce was welcomed to her eternal Home, surrounded by her entire family.
Born July 30, 1946, to Wanda May (Snider) and Millard Waggoner of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, she was also the first grandchild of both families. She was big sister to Wayne Lee and cousin to Gary, Pat and Tim Goss, Barry and Connie Snider, who all survive her. Many Waggoner cousins do as well along with her Aunt Cora Phillips, Aunt Betty Ann and Uncle Isom Waggoner.
Joyce moved to Johnstown her eighth-grade year and became active throughout her student days. She graduated JHS 1964, receiving salutatorian honors before studying at Ohio University. On September 21, 1968, she married Terry A. Priest. Their children Amy Jane Priest (Kim Redman) was born in 1972, daughter Abigail May Priest in 1976. In addition to being a parent, managing the home, being a supportive teacher's wife, she worked at Western Electric, H&R Block, Cardinal Industries, and Bob Evans Corporate from which she retired.
She found time to be helpful in the church, school, and community through Sunday and Bible school, Lydia Circle, United Methodist Women, Bible study, faith-based charities, School PTA, attending sports and music events, assisting in Girl Scouts and Red Cross Bloodmobile. Joyce always enjoyed helping others and especially being "Geemosh" to her grandchildren.
For herself, she loved reading mysteries and political intrigue, country western music, contemporary Christian music, "The Message" on Sirius, Earl Grey tea, rye bread, Jersey Mike subs on football Saturdays with niece Lisa, enduring "Terry Tours" to literary sites and cemeteries, and adding stamps from national parks for her souvenir passport.
She became fast friends with co-workers. She relished time spent with beloved friends, Brio luncheons with Judy Long, get togethers with Carol Butt, keeping up with the Krstich family, culinary treats of Cathy Block, the piano and voice of Bruce Piper, laughing with Malinda, and irking her husband with her online shopping.
She will be remembered for her loving heart, generous gifts, expressive eye rolls, courteous but sound criticism, collecting cookbooks, Beanie Babies collection, family photos, and her expansive need for purchasing items in bulk quantities.
Her life is a testament to the daily practice of strength, courage, determination, love, gratitude, and faith. Joyce's profound hope is for all, including her beloved grandchildren SaraBeth "Sam" and Luke, to seek "J-O-Y": put "J"esus first, "O"thers second, "Y"ourself last. Rejoice!
Arrangements were made with Snyder Funeral Homes, DeVore Chapel in Sunbury. Friends may call at Johnstown United Methodist Church Saturday, January 13 from 10 AM to Noon.
