Joyce F. Stein, age 89 of Monroe, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024 at Wellspring Lutheran Home after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Born December 7, 1934 in Trenton, MI, Joyce was the daughter of the late Maurice Fogarty and Victoria Beauregearde. She graduated from St. Mary Academy in 1954 and married Charles A. Stein in 1955 at St. Mary Catholic Church. In 2004, Joyce retired from Monroe County Farm Service Agency where she was employed as a loan officer for 20+ years.
Joyce was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she sang in the church choir for 40 years, volunteered her time in the God Works program, and served as a tutor at the elementary school. She was an avid Notre Dame Football fan and enjoyed playing Bridge, attending her grandchildren's sporting events and school activities, and taking care of her grand babies.
Joyce is survived by two children, Laura Ann (John) Castiglione and Matthew (Angel) Stein, both of Monroe; four grandchildren: Allison (Luke) Yinger, Andrew (Felicity Renn) Castiglione, Zachary Stein, and Paige Stein; and two great-grandchildren, Landon Yinger and Gino Castiglione.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by two infant children, Gregory and Sarah Stein; and four siblings, Robert Fogarty, Nancy Marler, Beverly Mannion, and David Fogarty.
Joyce will lie in state Friday, June 21st at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by the church pastor, Rev. Fr. David Burgard. Cremation will follow with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral and cremation arrangements.
Memorial donations are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church or SMCC High School.
