Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lewis Crematory & Funeral Services, Myrtle Beach on Feb. 1, 2025.
Joycey Velsor died at 3:47 a.m. on February 1, 2025, at the age of 78, after multiple long battles that she fought fiercely and valiantly. Ultimately the kidney failure just could not be beaten. I've never seen anyone fight so hard for so long so she could spend more time with those she loved. I am so very proud of her! She was talking and laughing to her last day when she slipped silently away; quickly, painlessly with no fear, holding her daughter's hand through it all.
She is predeceased by her parents, Gould and Julie Streeter, her sister Carol, and her beloved husband John.
She is survived by her only daughter Kathy and her grandsons who were the bright shining lights of her life: her oldest grandson Michael, and his partner Lindsay and her son Gary, Johnpaul and his wife Keenya, Tristian, her favorite conversationalist and her youngest grandson Evan, who she called her miracle baby from the second he was born, which she felt so lucky to have been present at his birth; her granddaughters in law Courtney and Linda, who loved her very much. She is also survived by her niece Susan and her wife Amy and their children, her nephews David and his children, Scotty and his wife Cheryl, and Billy and his wife Crystal. We cannot forget her precious spirit animal Jazzy, who brought her and the family so much joy.
Susan, Tristian, and Evan were instrumental in her care and her happiness in the months I could not be there. I know she was very grateful and proud of her grandsons, and I will be forever thankful to them for their unwavering love and care.
While, like everyone, her life was very hard at times, overall she was insanely happy and fulfilled. She loved traveling with her husband. She, myself, and her grandchildren always filled the places we went with laughter; be it traveling together or simply at home. She lived a long happy life and died peacefully holding my hand, as a woman of her masterful caliber should.
In lieu of flowers or cards, the family would appreciate donations to assist with burial expenses. Donations can be made via Zelle: JKatherine Sweeney/239-961-7568 or Cashapp: $JKatherine Sweeney. Any amount will help, as we are starting with so very little. We thank you in advance. Please leave happy memories and stories of your time spent with Joyce. She wanted to be remembered with joy, not sadness.
There will be a graveside service in Connecticut on Memorial Day weekend. Further info to be provided at a later date. All are welcome.
Joyce will be missed greatly by those who love her and will be remembered with happiness and joy. I thank everyone on behalf of my mom. Love and peace.
Mrs. Velsor is entrusted to Kelvin F. Lewis, the funeral director, and the Lewis Crematory & Funeral Home staff of
