Joyce Rebecca Wilson was born on September 3, 1951, to the late Mr. Larry Wilson, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Wakefield Wilson in Anderson, South Carolina. Joyce transitioned on July 7, 2025 peacefully at home.
Joyce was raised in Anderson, South Carolina with her sisters Kathy, Florence and Linda. Kathy and Linda preceded her in death as well as her brother Larry Jr. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church. She graduated from Westside High School in 1969 and went on to further her education getting a Bachelor of Arts degree in education at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina and her Master's degree in education personnel services from Clemson University.
Joyce was passionate about education. She worked as both a teacher and counselor for over 40 years in the Anderson School District # 5, eventually retiring from West Pelzer District # 1. She played a huge role also being president of the S.C.E.A (South Carolina Education Association) and served on the N.E.A. (National Education Association) board and serving on the board of education. She exemplified the motto "Intelligence is the torch of wisdom."
Joyce's service to her community included Jack and Jill of America, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a band mom of T.L. Hanna High School.
Just as Joyce was passionate and dedicated to help others around her, it was her family that brought her so much joy, especially her only son, Minister Chauncey Monrayce Clemons who has preceded her in death.
Joyce leaves to cherish her memories: her two grandchildren, Caden Clemons and Lindsey Clemons both of Duluth, Georgia; a daughter-in-law whom she affectionately called her daughter, LaChanda Clemons of Duluth, Georgia; one sister, Florence Wilson of Atlanta Georgia; her godson, Calvin Estrich of Charlotte, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025 at St. Paul First Baptist Church. The interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. Public viewing Sunday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
