Loyd Lee Widener Jr., 86, of Lockney, was called home to our Father in Heaven in the early morning of Monday, January 27, 2025. He passed peacefully in his sleep with family at his side. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Main Street Church of Christ in Lockney, Texas. Burial will follow at the Lockney cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2025 at Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney. Funeral arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Lockney.
Loyd was born January 2, 1939 in Memphis, TX to Loyd and Maxine Widener. The family moved to Lockney in 1948. Loyd graduated from Lockney High School in 1957. He attended Abilene Christian University for two years. Afterwards, he returned to his hometown of Lockney to farm with his dad. Loyd married the love of his life, Janice Rice in 1971. Loyd and Janice raised their three children in Lockney. Once the children were grown, Loyd became an OTR trucker for nine years. He traveled all across the country, often times with Janice by his side. Loyd was a dog lover, he took his dachshund Jake with him everywhere he went. Loyd was an avid car enthusiast and was particularly proud of his 1966 Corvette which he kept all his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family at their cabin in Ruidoso whenever he could. Loyd was a devoted Papa to his 5 grandchildren. He loved spending time with his "ol pals" as he called them. Often picking them up from school and taking them out for ice cream. He loved to have them come to the house to play in the spa or run around in the yard. Once he retired, Loyd enjoyed driving with his son to look at the crops, check out pivots and just spend time at the farm.
Loyd was preceded in death by his mother Maxine in 1981, and his father Loyd in 1994.
Loyd is survived by his wife, Janice, as well as his children Loyd "Chantz" Widener of Lubbock, Brandon Widener and wife Atril of Lockney, Kimberlee Emert of Plainview, grandchildren Jerry Franklin, Hailee Widener, Deacon James Widener, Peyton Emert and Dresden Widener, and dog Polly.
