Juan M. Arguello Jr., a man whose life was filled with music he so masterfully created, left this world on March 2, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on August 4, 1937, in the small town of Lytle, Texas, Juan's journey was one of faith, family, and an unquenchable passion for music that he shared with everyone. He passed away surrounded by the love of his family in San Antonio, leaving behind a legacy of music, funny lines and an unwavering spirit.
He was preceded in death by his son Jacob, and great-granddaughter Sophia, his parents, Corina and Juan Arguello Sr., his siblings Candelario, Bernardo, Emilia, Pilar, Clemencia, and Arturo. He is survived by his daughter Diane Whitley and her husband Adam, his sons Juan Arguello III and his wife Kelli, and Jason Arguello and his wife Adriana. His legacy will live on through his 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, sisters, Eva Mauricio, Yolanda Munoz, Linda Aguero and his brother Alvaro Arguello.
Juan's life was a symphony of notes that ranged from the tender whispers of ballads to the exuberant shouts of conjunto music. As a musician, lyricist, accordionist, and lead vocalist, he began his love affair with music during elementary school years and continued to serenade audiences until he was 86.
Juan, affectionately known as "Juanito" by his loved ones, was a strong-minded man and an optimistic realest. His hands danced across the keys of various accordions, each song a story, each performance was a testament to his dedicated craft. He toured with several conjuntos, spreading the joy of music from California to Texas, leaving an indelible mark across the Southwest.
His faith was the cornerstone of his existence, as unwavering as the beat of music guiding him through life's ups and downs to the end. He was a man of many talents, always ready with a joke to lighten the mood, a prayer to provide comfort, and created homemade tools to fix what was broken.
Juan's family was the harmony that supported the melody of his life, and his music was the bridge that connected generations. Juan's life was not just about the notes he played but about the laughter he inspired, the faith he nurtured, and the hands he held.
His presence was a reminder that life, much like music, is not just about the high notes or the low notes, but about the journey between them.
Let us celebrate Juan M. Arguello Jr.'s life as a song that never truly ends. It continues to play in the hearts of those he touched, in the stories that will be told, and in the echoes of his accordion that will forever fill the rooms of memory.
As we bid farewell to this gifted and blessed man, let us carry forward his zest for life, his unwavering faith, and his contagious laughter. Today, we do not say goodbye to Juan; we say thank you. Thank you for sharing your faith, your music, the memories, and the love. We are all privileged to have been part of your life.
Our father loved his team of caretakers. His family witnessed the acts of kindness which filled us all with peace knowing he was being taken care of. Thank you, Harbor Valley, for being his home away from home.
Your song will play on as a timeless melody of a life well-lived. Rest in harmony until we meet again.
