Juanita Frances Galuska, 76, of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania and formerly of Bethany, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
Born on October 1, 1948, in Nyack, New York, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Ruth (North) Bradley. She was raised in Dumont and Tenafly, NJ, was a graduate of Tenafly High School and studied at Western Connecticut State University and Grace Downs Air Career School. It was while attending Grace Downs that she met her husband, Walter Galuska.
She lived on Long Island and worked for Pan American Airways in New York City prior to moving to Honesdale, Pennsylvania in 1985. Juanita worked for Highlights Children, Inc. for nearly 40 years before she retired in 2023. She held a number of positions at Highlights, including Managing Editorial Coordinator.
Juanita enjoyed traveling (especially the Finger Lakes), reading, spicy food of all varieties and solving jigsaw puzzles. She greatly enjoyed music in all forms: listening, singing in the choir, playing and directing church handbells, playing guitar, and singing in the Sweet Adelines quartet group. She also loved the Halloween season – partnering with her late-husband Walter in the development of an extravagant ghoulish display for many years in Tenafly, NJ. That display attracted large crowds each year, and was featured on the local news and in local newspapers. In addition, she especially loved all her feline family members and the NY Mets!
Juanita was pre-deceased by her husband of over 50 years, Walter C. Galuska, as well as her sister Gail M. Bradley. Surviving are her son Bradley Galuska of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, her sister Cynthia Bradley Russell and husband Scotty of Grass Valley, California; her brother Wayne Bradley and wife Ann-Marie Notaro of Franklin, Tennessee; her nephews, Andrew Bradley and wife Drew of Peoria, Illinois; Harrison Bradley of Atlanta, GA; Jack Bradley of Montreal, Canada; Charles Missman of Grass Valley, California; and great nephews, Lucas and Landon Missman, of Grass Valley, California. She is also survived by her stepsiblings Shirley Steinmetz of Charleston, South Carolina, Patricia and husband Mike Napolitano of Punta Gorda, Florida; Arthur and wife Mary Ellen Thorspecken of Harrington Park, New Jersey; Donald and wife Valarie Thorspecken of Hebron, Connecticut; Thomas Thorspecken of Yalaha, Florida; and Carol and husband Mark Bishop of Queensbury, New York.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 23, at the Bethany Community Church North at 11 am. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery. Arrangements by Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.
