Juanita Figueroa Melendez, also known as "Juana" or "Mrs. Lopez" was born August 22, 1933 to parents Victoria Melendez and Valentin Figueroa in Fajardo, Puerto Rico and died August 7, 2025 at her home.

She was preceded in death by her great grandson Daniel Avila Lopez; granddaughter Alexandra Lopez Garay; siblings Carmen M. Soto, Elizabeth Figueroa, Valentin Figueroa, Hector Figueroa, Hilda Figueroa, Miguel Angel Figueroa and Juan Mendez.

Juanita married her husband Alfredo Lopez Cabrera on January 7, 1956, in Fajardo, PR. She worked as a seamstress. She was blessed to be married for over 70 years and was the beloved matriarch of her family. As her husband served as the Mayor of their hometown Fajardo, in Puerto Rico, she was the respected First Lady from 1984-88.

In addition to her husband Alfredo Lopez Cabrera, she is also survived by her children Nancy (Juan Cruz Nieves) Lopez Cruz; Evelyn Lopez Figueroa of Puerto Rico and Alfredo (Migdalia Valentin) Lopez Figueroa Jr.

She had 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson: Nancy Adaliz Nixon (DeMario Nixon), De Mar A. Nixon, Liza Maria Baez-Kemp (Robert Kemp), Liani Milagros Dunagan (Michael Dunagan), Karina G. Dunagan, Jose Diaz, Elian Y. Diaz, Jose W. Burgos (Alba Rivera), Nilmarie Lopez Morales (Julio C. Feliciano), Alex Jandel Ramirez Lopez, Ares E. Ramirez, Luis Colon Lopez, Yokani Melendez Lopez, Daniella Sair Torres, Keishlianny Almanzar, Susanne M. Rivera (Sherwin Rivera), Omar Rivera, Evan Rivera, Alfredo Lopez Garay (Nadja Portalatin), Gisela E. Lopez, Adriana S. Lopez, Manual A. Lopez, Carina J. Lopez, Josely K. Lopez, Mateo Alberto Lopez, Alfred Lopez (Rut Rosado) and Andres Lopez. She is also survived by her sisters Giorgina Soto and Irene Soto.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 10 am at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon, Ill. Funeral service will follow at 12:30 pm. Burial will follow at Shiloh Valley Cemetery, Shiloh, Illinois.
