Judith M. (Meltz) Davis, Judy to all who knew and loved her, left her earthly life and passed into eternal life with her Lord and Savior on August 30, 2025. She was met with open arms and exuberance by her family that passed before her, in particular her twin sister JoAnn, whom she has desperately missed these last few years.
Judy was born on September 25, 1936, to Orville and Marie (Van Landghen) Meltz, the first of two identical twin girls. She attended St. Therese Catholic School and Appleton High School, class of 1954. In 1957, Judy met and married Bernard Davis, a fine Irish gentleman who loved her truly well. Together, they raised four children, in a warm and loving home. Their home was always open to JoAnn's five children as well, as it was a rare occasion indeed, when there wasn't at least one or two of the 'Wales' at the Davis home and vice versa. The Davis's and Wales's had many adventures together, holidays, vacations, traveling, pool parties, Packer games, Davis Cup golf outings, and many many more. Judy was mostly a stay-at-home mom and homemaker, ensuring her husband and children lived in a clean home, with warm, yummy food and clean clothes always at the ready. Her greatest treasures were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Bernie loved to travel, play cards, dance, golf and watch the Packers and Badgers.
In 1997, Bernie passed after 40 years together. A few years later, Judy married the second love of her life, Jerry Schroeder. She welcomed three more children into her family, Rick (Debbie) Schroeder, Lisa (Dennis) Oudenhoven and Lynn Schroeder, along with three more grandchildren, Brett, Ashley and Jordan. Judy and Jerry spent many happy years golfing, traveling, enjoying NASCAR races across the U.S. and spending their winters in Lady Lake, Florida at the Villages. Jerry predeceased her in 2007.
Judy loved being a twin, a gift she treasured dearly. Time spent with JoAnn, their spouses, and children was the norm. In 2003, Judy was able to donate stem cells to JoAnn that kept them together on this earth for another 15 years. She felt she had truly fulfilled one of her true purposes in this life. Losing JoAnn was perhaps the most difficult loss she had to endure.
Judy is survived by her children: Pam (Tom) DeLeest, Appleton, Sue (Dan) Crahen, Appleton, John Davis, Milaca, MN and Traci (David Granheim) Davis, Brookston, MN; her grandchildren Keely DeLeest, Krissy (Joe) Jaloszynski, Tony (Wilai) Davis, Walker (Shawna) Kuhlman, Jeff Kuhlman, Shelby (Colton) Voigt; her great-grandchildren Gracyn and Tommy Jaloszynski, Easton Kuhlman, Waylon and Lainey Kuhlman, and Lincoln Voigt. Judy is also survived by JoAnn's children, whom she loved dearly and thought of as her 'extra 5', Pete (Barbie) Wales, Jim Wales, Katie (Mike) Hackstock, Joy (Pat) Graham, and Caroline (Steve) Kellogg; her sister-in-law Janet Kessler, Louisville, KY; Bernie's clan from across Canada, Louisville, KY and Pensacola, FL; a special friend Don Moon, and many other wonderful nieces, nephews, and family.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents Orville and Marie Meltz; two husbands Bernie Davis and Jerry Schroeder; her siblings Larry (Lois) Meltz, Ramona Meltz and twin JoAnn Wales Leddy; her daughter-in-law Tye Davis; her father and mother-in-law Harold and Lillian Davis, and mother-in-law Ginny Rankin; her brothers and sisters-in-law George Wales, John 'Jack' Leddy, Frank and Edith Davis, Lawler and Helen Davis, John 'Jack' Kessler; and other family she couldn't wait to see again.
Per Judy's wishes a private family mass will honor her life.
Her family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers at Dimension Living in Appleton where she lived the last 8 years. In particular, Brady, Jenn, Hayli, Missy, Rachel, Bob, Linda to name just a few. The list of the truly special people at Dimensions who do what they do, is long. Please know that we appreciate ALL of you and know you ALL have made her life much easier. Also, we would like to thank Judy's St. Croix Hospice caregivers Leah, Tonya and Krista.
Mom, we know you never wanted to be the "last one to the party" and have been waiting to join the grand celebration in heaven ever since Jo passed. Cheers to a life well lived! Hugs and kisses to dad and Jo and everyone else. WOW, what a great party! Until we see you all again, we love you.
