On behalf of the Caldwell family, I'd like to extend my sincerest condolences to the Deville family. My parents, Arthur and Ernestine (deceased), were friends with them in Panama during the 70's. Denise was my mom's goddaughter and would visit her in Columbia, SC when she had training at Fort Jackson. My siblings, Cindy (passed in 2024), Ardrina, Sherry, and Arthur Jr., loved the Devilles immensely.
One of my fondest memories was in 1999, when my parents and I drove to San Antonio, Tx, and we stopped in Lake Charles to see Mr. Pete and Ms. Judy. It was a joy seeing the laughter and love after all those years of not seeing each other. It was the best reunion.
Lastly, God has a way of healing your heart by doing things. Somehow, Ms. Judy and I connected by phone after Mr. Pete's passing, and I spoke to her the end of May. That conversation, along with the other 2 we had, has warmed my heart and makes the sadness turn into smiles. Her laughter and wit was medicine for my soul. She shared stories about my mom and would often converse with my dad, who was like a brother to her.
We are forever grateful for the bond, friendship and memories shared with the Deville family. Although we weren't related by blood, the love shared for over 50 years surpassed anything you could imagine. God bless you all. May Ms. Judy's beautiful soul rest in everlasting peace and be united with all those who left before her and loved her dearly.
