Judith Kaye Engledow, 83, of Carmel, Indiana, formerly of
Wabash, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 12:30 pm on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Rose Senior Living Community in Carmel. She was born on March 30, 1941, in Marion, Indiana.
Judith attended Wabash High School, where she met her husband, Jack L. Engledow. They were married on January 26, 1958, at Wabash Christian Church, and enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage until Jack's passing on August 12, 2016. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and shared adventures. Judith was a dedicated stay-at-home mom while their children were young. As they grew older, she began working in the accounting department at Wal-Mart until her retirement.
Judith and Jack cherished their time together, spending more than five decades in their home, which they lovingly maintained from 1960 until 2016. Every year, they traveled across the United States, with Judith meticulously planning each road trip by highlighting routes on their road atlas. Jack would drive while she navigated, creating countless memories along the way. They also enjoyed attending car shows, proudly showing off their 1967 Grand Prix, the first car they bought brand new, still in pristine condition. While Jack enjoyed winning trophies and sharing the stories behind the car, Judith loved socializing, listening to live music, and indulging in sweet treats from the vendors. They were best friends and partners in every sense, supporting one another through life's joys and challenges.
Judith had a keen eye for fashion, loved getting her hair done, and was known for her wonderful cooking. She enjoyed tending to her flower beds and taking pride in making their home a welcoming space for family and friends. A dedicated bowler, she spent many years in a league with her best friend Betty, bowling every Tuesday night and traveling with the team for tournaments.
She brought comfort and happiness to those around her with her warm smile, encouraging words, and infectious spirit. Even in her later years, Judith stayed connected with her community through her love for live music, games, and word puzzles. She also had a competitive streak, excelling at corn hole and proudly taking home 1st place in her assisted living community. Judith found joy in attending weekly church services and Bible studies, as well as in breakfast gatherings and coffee with friends. Her presence brought joy to both residents and caregivers alike, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Judith is survived by her two children, Mark Engledow of Wabash and Tracy (Eric) Wilson of Huntington, Indiana; five grandchildren, Amber (Josh) Gray of Carmel, Carrie (Tommy) Le of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Andrea (Eric) Kloer of Huntington, Jack L.D. Engledow of Wabash, and Alyssa Richards of Huntington; six great-grandchildren; her brother, Steven (Joan) Gore of Indianapolis, Indiana; and her daughter-in-law, Debbie Engledow of Wabash. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lucinda Gore.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, August 30, 2024, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with David Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion. Friends may call 12:30 - 2:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.
