Judith Ann "Dorinzi" Kun (Judy), 82, of Westover, WV, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief battle with cancer.
Judy was born on September 24, 1942, in
Morgantown, West Virginia, to the late Carl Dorinzi and Victoria "Peppetti" Dorinzi. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and teacher, whose life was marked by her deep love for family, compassionate service to others, and steadfast faith. Judy dedicated her career to teaching and supporting students with special education needs in the Monongalia County Schools system, touching countless lives with patience, encouragement, and kindness. She was actively involved in her church and community, always prioritizing the needs of others over her own, and will be remembered for her generosity, warmth, and selfless spirit.
In her younger years, Judy spent several years taking dance lessons and teaching at Virginia Chittum's Dance Studio, located on High Street, with aspirations of becoming a Rockette. Though life led her down a different path, her grace, rhythm, and love of dance and music remained a joyful part of who she was. Many of Judy's fondest memories center around her time growing up in the Woodburn area on Ridgeway Avenue. She also delighted in reminiscing with friends and family about fun times spent at Cheat Lake.
Over the years, Judy played an invaluable role as Pageant Coordinator for the Little Miss Pageant at the Monongalia County Fair, sharing her time, energy, and nurturing spirit with countless young participants. She also enjoyed volunteering for many years at the gift shop in Monongalia General Hospital, where she welcomed visitors with her warm smile and kind heart. She loved gardening and tending to her flower beds, finding joy in the beauty of nature. In the kitchen, she delighted family and friends with her cooking and baking. Judy's creativity shone through in designing colorful costumes-most notably her unforgettable "Marge Simpson" Halloween costume-bringing imagination and joy into everything she did.
Judy married Joseph Edward Kun on August 18, 1962, and they shared 56 years of marriage together, until his death in 2019. Judy especially cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Many of her happiest moments were those surrounded by family.
Judy is survived by her three children: Joseph Kun (Lisa Demasi) of Christiansburg, Virginia; Marc Kun (Sheree Jankovic) of High Point, North Carolina; and Stephanie Walter (James Walter) of Montclair, Virginia. She is also survived by her two brothers: James "Jim" Dorinzi (Virg Dorinzi) and John Dorinzi (Donna Dorinzi). Judy is also survived by her adoring and devoted grandchildren: Aarika Hardee (Cory) of Charleston, South Carolina; Jay Kun of High Point, North Carolina; Tia Walter of Woodbridge, Virginia; and Kira Walter of Montclair, Virginia. In addition, she is survived by many dear nieces and nephews, along with very special friends- Larry R. Martin and Chad Kearns.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Joseph E. Kun, and her brother, Jack Dorinzi, as well as her nephews, Jack Dorinzi Jr. and Nicholas Dorinzi, and other special family members.
During her battle with cancer, Judy displayed remarkable bravery, courage, and strength of character. Even in her most difficult days, she continued to put the thoughts and feelings of others above her own needs. Her generous spirit and kind nature quickly earned her the affection of staff and fellow patients during her time in the hospital and assisted living facilities.
The family extends a special thank you to Donna and Nicole Dorinzi for their thoughtful, compassionate, and knowledgeable care and assistance throughout the past year. They would also like to express sincere gratitude to the hospice staff at Amedisys, especially Stephanie and Emily, who provided unwavering support and guidance during Judy's courageous battle with cancer. In addition, the family would like to thank the staff at Harmony at Morgantown for the wonderful and tender care they provided for Judy during her brief stay at their residential assisted living facility.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Judy's memory to St Ursula Food Pantry & Outreach, P.O Box 18, Pursglove, WV 26546 and/or The Food Pantry Plus More (serving children in the Monongalia County school system) at https://account.venmo.com.
