Judith Weiand Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Money and King Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Jan. 11, 2026.
Judith Burkhalter Weiand, age 83, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, at Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, VA. Judy was born on August 19, 1942, in Cedarburg, WI to Charles and Dorothy Burkhalter. She was the oldest of three with two brothers, Charles (Chuck) Burkhalter (Aggie) and Michael Burkhalter (Sandy).

Judy married Richard J. Weiand on September 9, 1965, in Milwaukee, WI after first meeting at a college mixer dance. She then joined the love of her life, Richard, in Northern Virginia where he was working for the Department of Navy. Judy was the beloved mother of Anne Kasupski and the late Kristine Weiand; mother-in-law of Jeffrey Kasupski; grandmother of Kyle Kasupski and Kevin Kasupski; and cousin to numerous others.

As a teenager, Judy played trombone in her high school band and enjoyed listening to Pat Boone records. She was a "Miss Boston Store" in the early 1960's. Judy earned her Bachelor's degree in Math from Alverno College in 1965, graduating to become a teacher. She taught high school math for two years at McLean High School in the mid-late 1960s. After taking some time away raising two lovely daughters, she returned to teaching math at South Lakes High School in Reston, VA for 22 years before retiring.

Judy was an active member at St. Mark Catholic Church since 1975. She was a religious education teacher in the late 1970s and a member of the Handbell Choir since its inception in 1986. Judy was a Girl Scout during her youth and later became a Girl Scout leader / co-leader when Anne and Kristine were in Junior Scouts. She supported both her daughter's playing soccer and Anne's competitive swimming, where she volunteered at home swimming meets. Judy's math skills were instrumental in assisting her grandsons, Kyle and Kevin. She enjoyed traveling around Europe while visiting Anne and her family when they lived in Germany and England. She enjoyed walks with her neighbors, vacations at the beach, cruising with Anne and her sister-in-law, Aggie, and her beloved cats. She loved being a kid at the Wisconsin State Fair, especially eating cream puffs. Judy shared a passion for Scrapbooking with her daughter Anne.

Visiting hours are 11am – 12pm on January 29, 2026, prior to Mass at 12pm at St. Mark Catholic Church, Vienna, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the cancer research facility of your choice.

Joanne Gramins

January 24, 2026

Long distance condolences to you, Anne and family, from Joanne Gramins in Wisconsin. Judy and I shared a very special friendship for 70+years, meeting in 7th grade, spending 4 years together in high school, both becoming teachers, standing up in each other's wedding, sharing visits back and forth between Wisconsin and Virginia, as well as many long distances phone calls. I will miss her so much, but know how joyous her reunion with Dick and Kristine must be. She will always be there for you, Anne, in memories that pop up, even an unexpected sense of her presence at times. Ron and I will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.
