We are saddened to announce the passing of Julia Ann "Julie" (Riynock) Grassman of Loudonville, Ohio on November 7th, 2024, while surrounded by family. Born April 14,1938, Julie was a Loudonville class of 1956 graduate and a lifelong resident. She took great pride in being a Loudonville Redbird, so much so that she was known for collecting any and everything "Redbird" related. She retired from Mansfield Plumbing Products in 2016, after 55 faithful years of service.
She held many titles, with her favorite being "Grandma". Julie's greatest joy in life was spoiling her grandkids and great grandkids. Julie's favorite thing to do with her family was to travel, often treating her kids and grandkids to summer trips to Pelee Island and trips across the Caribbean on a cruise ship. As her grandkids were growing up, Julie loved to spoil them with experiences. She braved taking them to Cedar Point on a rainy day, traveled to other countries with them in tow (without their parents!), treated them to many Disney on Ice outings and so much more. She led by example through her giving nature, strong work ethic and support for her community and family; teaching her family so much along the way, with the most important lesson being how to properly carry a salt shaker.
Julie had a special bond with her three sisters Susie, Patty and Marylee. They too loved traveling together via Cruise ship and usually spent their time laughing or seeing who could find the best shopping sale.
You never left the Grassman home hungry, and could always count on an array of cookies and desserts during her favorite time of the year, Christmas season. She loved having her grandchildren visit for a weekend to decorate for Christmas and bake cookies, usually followed by a drive to look at Christmas lights anywhere between the Mansfield Fairgrounds and Wheeling, WV.
Julie was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to watching her children set records in several Loudonville sports, her two grandsons, Tyler and Corbin, playing for the Buffalo Bulls during college and her great granddaughter, Jocelyn, playing travel softball for the Ohio Thunderbolts. She knew sports stats better than some sportscasters, especially when it came to her Ohio favorites.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents Mary (Dewy) Morris and Jack (Jean) Riynock, her loving husband of 58 years Charles "Andy" Grassman, sister Susan (Joe) Grassman, daughter Jaqualin Grassman and two grandchildren Missy (Troutman) Verano and Andrew James Gamble. Julie is survived by her sons Andy Grassman of Loudonville and Ron (Kathy) Grassman of Alexandria, daughter Terri Gamble of Massillon, and her adopted son Jim (Beth) Grassman of Gahanna; nine grandchildren Josh, her favorite granddaughter Jamie, Jessica, Kelsey, Corbin, Megan, Kevin, Tyler and David and their spouses; bonus granddaughter Sydney Anderson; 19 great grandchildren Caden, Jocelyn, Bella, Skylar, Grahm, Cooper, Hudson, Nora, Riley, Carter, Lincoln, Kennedy, Collins, Cora, Noah, Amelia, Owen, Alex and Alan; and sisters Mary Lee (Ken) Myers of Camarillo, CA and Patty (Gary) Stumbaugh of Aiken, NC, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Julie and Andy spent their lives dedicated to supporting Loudonville sports, providing for their family and welcoming others in. After seven years apart they are finally together again, watching over all of us. There is a belief that when a cardinal is nearby it is a loved one visiting you from heaven. We have no doubt that Julie will be visiting us as a beautiful "redbird".
Services will be held at Snyder Funeral Home in Loudonville, Friday November 15, 2024. Friends and family may visit between 3 and 6 pm, with a memorial service to follow immediately after.
In honor of Julie's love for baking, her family would like to share two of their favorite recipes of hers "Peaches and Cream" and "Cherry Cheesecake." In lieu of flowers they request donations be made to McMullen Assisted Living, Loudonville.
