Julia "Julie" Torres July 23, 1932 - December 13, 2023 Julia Torres, affectionately known as Julie to many, passed away on December 13, 2023, at the age of 91. Born on July 23, 1932, in Utuado, Puerto Rico, Julie was a symbol of strength, independence, and love throughout her life. A single mother, Julie was the matriarch of a large and loving family, raising six children: Wanda, Carlos, Juan, Ruben, Mildred, and Manuel, and becoming a cherished grandmother to 17 and a great-grandmother to 20. Her dedication to her family was unwavering, and she took immense pride in her role as a grandmother. She will be fondly remembered for her short stature yet large presence and a wonderful smile that quipped witty one-liners in a heavy Puerto Rican accent. Known for her sharp wit, strong spirit, and thoughtful nature, Julie carried a presence that was both commanding and nurturing. She was a beautiful woman in all stages of life who took pride in her appearance, maintaining it with grace and dignity. Julie's home was a haven of cleanliness, love, and safety, always open for those she cared about. Cooking and feeding her family was one of her favorite ways of expressing her love and care. In the mornings, her kitchen was often filled with the sweet aroma of vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar, which would later give way to the warm and comforting scent of rice and beans in the evenings. Additionally, Julie's love for slot machines, scratch-off lotto tickets, and spending time with her great-grandchildren were sources of great personal enjoyment and excitement later in life. As a woman of faith, Julie loved to engage in thoughtful dialogues about God with people of all beliefs. The wake for Julie will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at Loucks Funeral Home in Ellenville, NY. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM for the family and open to the public at 1:45 PM, concluding at 4:00 PM. A service will be held the following day, Monday, at 10:00 AM at Loucks Funeral Home, followed by a burial at Fantinekill Cemetery. The family invites friends and loved ones to join in celebrating Julie's remarkable life and legacy. Julie's memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and faith. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
