Julia O'Shea our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, the matriarch of our family passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025 at age 106.
Born at the end of WWI, she endured the Spanish flu, the Great Depression, WWII and Covid. She married Daniel O'Shea in Carmel, CA as he prepared to join the fight in the Pacific during WW2. She was married to Daniel for 75 years, she is survived by her children Denise, David and Deborah, her oldest son Daniel predeceased her. She was one of nine, the third oldest and last surviving. Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren knew her as Grandma or Gigi, she was willing to give her love and share her wisdom with each of them. Her brothers and sisters included Eleanor, Margaret, Lillian, Katherine, Mary, Tom, and Jim. Aunt Julie to so many wonderful nieces and nephews, along with her many friends, including her lifelong BFF's Maid of Honor Emily Laponzina and Mary Smith and countless others.
She lived a full and rewarding life which is to be celebrated. To know her was to love her. Our parents' retirement allowed them to spend 30+ years as snowbirds walking on the sands of Myrtle Beach. We have often stated that everyone would like to live that retirement.
Julia had the gift of gab and compassion which she shared with everyone she met. Wherever we went as children, she was always able to talk and befriend strangers. As she entered the twilight years, her friendliness extended to all the people she met in Brookfield and Bethel, making great friends and touching many souls. She was always supportive and friendly. We have been blessed with the compassion and kindness of the Bethel staff. It is impossible to mention all the wonderful people she Interacted with every day; our family will be forever grateful.
What a different world she leaves than when she entered, made in part better by her life well lived and loved.
The arrangements are as follows. Visitation from 3pm to 8pm on Friday, 3/21 at Joseph J Smith Funeral Home, 692 US-6, Mahopac NY. 845-621-1992.
The Mass is Saturday 11:30am at Saint John the Evangelist, 221 E Lake Blvd, Mahopac, NY 845-628-2006
