Julia Helen Tanis peacefully went home to be with her Lord & Savior on October 17, 2024 surrounded by her family. Born on July 5, 1941, in Paterson, New Jersey, Julia was the beloved daughter of the late Stanley and Helen (Kuligowski) Whipland and sister to her late brother, Stanley Whipland Jr. Julia was a beautiful example of a life filled with love, service, and faith, interwoven with the joys of family and community.
Graduating from Hawthorne High School, Julia soon married her high school sweetheart Jacob "Jack" Tanis and they began their first "ministry" of raising their children together providing a life full of faith, love and laughter, guiding their children with wisdom and unwavering support. Julia was the loving mother to Jacob Tanis, Jr. and his wife Dawn of Asbury, NJ; Jeffrey Tanis and his wife Dayna of Magnolia, TX; Christopher Tanis and his wife Careyanne of Green Pond, NJ; and Lauren Karanikolas and her husband A.J. of Bedminster, NJ. She cherished her 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, to whom she often referred to as her "blessings."
When Pastor Jack heeded the call from the Lord to full time ministry, Julia embraced the role of pastor's wife wholeheartedly. Her nurturing spirit extended to virtually everyone she met. She was considered a "mother" to many and a spiritual mentor to countless friends. Always greeting everyone with her infectious smile and a warm hug. She has impacted many congregations, most recently for the past 20 years as a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Easton, PA.
Julia was passionate about serving and meeting the needs of others. She loved to cook, clean, and help in any way possible. Over the years, she took people into her home, volunteered as an EMT, worked in various medical positions all with an eye to helping those in need. If you were with her, you always would feel like you were the most important person in the world.
Julia will be missed by all. However, we are confident that she was welcomed with the words "Well done thou good and faithful servant" as she entered the beautiful banquet hall that was waiting for her.
Services: A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church, 5300 Green Pond Road, Easton, PA 18045. Visitation will begin at 10 A.M. until the time of the service. Julia's services have been entrusted to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.
Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Julia's name to Calvary Baptist Church via mail to 5300 Green Pond Road, Easton, PA 18045.

I met Julie at Calvary Baptist Church and got to know her and Jack through the church and through working out at Bethlehem Township Community Center. I'd see them throughout the week, too, at funerals or at the supermarket. I am unable to attend the funeral, but I send my condolences to the family and to Jack.

Julie and I were classmates first at Lincoln Elementary and then Roosevelt Elementary before going to Hawthorne High. We were classmates and friends throughout our elementary and high school education. Julie was a sweet and kind person with much school spirit. She will be missed by many. My condolences to her family and especially to Jack.
