Julia Ugas (RN) Obituary

Visit the Slone & Co. Funeral Directors website to view the full obituary.

Julia Charcape was a force of nature: a brave, loving, and determined woman who transformed the lives of all those around her through her example.

She was born in Salaverry, Peru, near the sea, and grew up under the influence of extraordinary parents: her mother Ana, the embodiment of maternal kindness, and her father Enrique, a model of effort and intelligence who, from humble beginnings, rose to lead an American company in the country. With these foundations, Julia became the first university graduate in her family, inspiring her siblings to better themselves and to remain always united.

She married Carlos Ugas, with whom she built a solid and loving marriage. As a nurse, she stood out for her dedication, responsibility, and deep compassion for her patients—qualities that led her to leadership roles, which she carried out with empathy and respect. She was also a devoted daughter who supported her parents in their later years, an exemplary sister, and a generous, welcoming aunt.

As a mother, she was the pillar of her family—loving, protective, and inspiring. She raised her four children—Carlos, Jenny, Percy, and Hugo—with the values of unity, perseverance, and self-improvement. By her example, she nurtured Carlos’s vocation as a physician, inspired Jenny to pursue nursing, supported Percy in his path as a skilled driver, and guided Hugo in laying the foundations for his career as an administrator.

At the age of 60, with admirable courage, she won the U.S. visa lottery and decided to begin a new life in Miami alongside her husband, paving the way for the entire family to reunite in the United States. From the very first day, she lovingly accompanied the growth of her granddaughter Ana Julia, filling her world with love almost without realizing it, and inspired her daughter-in-law to follow her steps into nursing. Her grandchildren, Luciana and Hugo Julián, also grew up under her mantle of love and example.

Julia faced cancer twice with strength, and in her final battle, even as an oncology patient, she maintained an unbreakable spirit: she guided Carlos in his first steps as a chief physician in the United States, united her entire family, resolved key matters for their future, and left each of them stronger and more bonded in her name.

Her whole life was a lesson in love, resilience, and generosity. All who knew her learned from her to persevere and to be kind to others. Julia Charcape leaves behind an indelible legacy of family unity, effort, and nobility.
