Julie Childs Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 4, 2024.
On April 4, 2024, at the age of 71, Julie Childs joyfully departed this life to be welcomed into the arms of Jesus. She was born on October 6, 1952, in Birmingham, Alabama. She grew up in the Bluff Park community and graduated from Vanderbilt University and UAB School of Nursing. She served as a pediatric intensive care nurse at Children's Hospital and University Hospital. Julie's most lasting legacy is the faith she nurtured in her children. She had a kind and compassionate heart and helped many in their times of need. When no one else stepped up, Julie did. When she was unable to drive, she began sharing the Gospel with Uber drivers. Until the end, she always had the courage of her convictions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Orian Truss and Susan Heaslett Truss. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Larry Childs; her three children, Lucy Olson (Dan), Betsy Howard (Bernard), and George Childs (Claire); her brothers Christopher Truss (Lois), Tommy Truss (Ruth), John Truss (Marianne) and sister Sally Jordan (Billy); sister-in-law Brenda See (Harold); her special friend Diane Childs. She delighted in her nine grandchildren, Elisabeth, Charlie, Mary, and Annie Olson; John, Anne, and Susan Childs; and Solly and Abel Howard.
The funeral service will take place on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 2 o'clock at Briarwood Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held at the church from 12:00–1:30 before the service, and a brief graveside service will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham.
Memorial contributions can be made to Together for Good, 1407 Cleveland Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55108.
Julie earnestly desired to have this stanza carved on her tombstone:
The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to his foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I'll never, no never, no never forsake!"
