On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Julie Nelson, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 58 with her family by her side.
She was born on April 3, 1966, to Jesse and Marian (Pierce) Johnson in Tomah, Wisconsin.
Julie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 39 years, Keith, and her children, Andrew (Mariel) and Marcus (Melanie) Nelson. She was the proud "Nana" to her grandchildren, Asher and Nora Nelson. She will also be missed by her little buddy, that lovingly laid by her side, Cheech. Julie was an adoring daughter to her parents, loving sister to her siblings and a very special aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
Julie attended school at Lemonweir Elementary, Tomah Middle School and graduated from the Tomah Sr. High in 1984. After graduating, she was united in marriage at the Tomah United Methodist Church on May 25, 1985, to her high school sweetheart and remained living in the Tomah area. She retired from the Tomah VA Medical Center in 2022, where she took pride in serving the veterans for 20 years. She loved her country home, near where she was born and raised. You could often find her sitting outside, in her lawn chair, enjoying the warm sun while admiring her many flowers, garden and bird feeders. She loved her many house plants, giving credit to her grandma for her green thumb, and loved crafting and sewing. Julie was an avid shopper, always up for a shopping trip with anyone to anyplace.
She is survived by her mother, Marian (Pierce) Johnson; husband, Keith, children Andrew (Mariel) Nelson and Marcus (Melanie) Nelson; grandchildren Asher and Nora Nelson; siblings Barbara Johnson, Lori (Mike) Eckelberg, Dwight (Cheryl) Johnson, Nancy (Mike) Kelly, Angie (Jay) Waltemath, David (Kati) Johnson; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Julie was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Johnson, Grandparents Ivan and Helen Pierce and Fred and Lula Johnson, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the Tomah United Methodist Church, 1105 Butts Ave, Tomah at 1:00 PM. Pastor Claudia Deede will officiate. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah. Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation on Wednesday at the church, 11:00 AM until the time of service. The Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be offered by visiting www.sonnenburgfamilyfh.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tomah Area Cancer Support Inc.
