Julie Ruth Waldeyer, nee Edwards, a longtime resident of Wall Township, died after a long illness on Sept. 23, 2024, at Capital Health Medical Center in Hopewell surrounded by her family. She was 74.
Born and raised in Neptune, Julie spent the warm summer days of her youth digging for clams in Shark River or grabbing her towel and walking to Bradley Beach to ride the ocean waves. Her teen years saw her working at her grandmother's answering service in Asbury Park, fielding calls for local doctors, dentists, and other professionals. She loved to go to the dance halls in Belmar and Lakehurst Naval Air Station on Friday and Saturday nights with her friends. Julie is a graduate of Neptune High School.
Little did she know her heart would leap for a truck driver at National Produce in Neptune whose last name she couldn't pronounce. It would become her own for 54 years as Julie and her husband Rich raised two daughters, Debbie and Amy, and helped out raising three grandsons, William, Jack and Jason. "Mom-Mom" or "My Princess" was happiest when with that trio, whether at the beach in Belmar or Turkey Brook Park in Mount Olive. And the Great Adventure trips with the Fun-N-Friends gang were not to be missed as Mom-Mom rode the roller coasters and protected the stuffed animal prizes won.
Julie favored '50s music but still went to every country concert that Rich, and later Debbie, got tickets to. And she faithfully sat on the metal bleachers of the youth and high school sports fields and the plastic seats of pro baseball stadiums and hockey arenas no matter the weather. A lover of Broadway, books, and black-and-white movies, Julie also made the best chocolate chip cookies. Just ask anyone aged 2 to 102.
Predeceased by her parents, Julie is survived by her husband Rich and their daughters Debbie Waldeyer, of Wall Township, and Amy Dienes with son-in-law Jim and grandsons William, Jack and Jason, of Budd Lake; siblings John Edwards with Donna DeRosa of Toms River, Joni with Flip Hershey of Summerfield, Florida, and Sue with Jim Cybulski of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; many nieces and nephews, a large and loving family, and wide network of friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation and service Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, from 4-8 p.m. at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan, New Jersey 08736. The day she was born and how excitied I was to have a baby sister. Julie Ruth always made you smile and laugh, because that's who she was. Never had an unkind word to say about anyone. Loved our trips to gether, with our baby sister Joni Rae to Canada and Florida etc., plus all the times we went out on dad's boat, fishing & crabing or just having fun along the Jersey Shore. She was always my dance partner when we were young. For the baby boomers " she knew how to cut a rug . Love you then, now and for ever, your brother John.
