Julius Wilkerson, Jr. Obituary

Julius Charles Wilkerson, Jr., 67, was born on May 16, 1957, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the union of the late Julius Charles Wilkerson, Sr., and Nannie Lou Bond-Wilkerson. He was the seventh born of ten children. Julius passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, and in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra; sister, Donna Elaine Brown; brothers, Julius Keith Wilkerson, Sr., Myron Lewis Wilkerson, and James Kevin Wilkerson. 

Julius graduated from New Albany High School and later retired after a distinguished career as a lineman for Duke Energy. As a lineman, he took pride in traveling out of town to help those affected by disasters in other areas.

He is survived by his sons, whom he loved dearly, Julian (Jessica) and Domonic (Christine) Wilkerson, stepchildren Shelly Merriwether (Allen) and Lee Wilson Jr (Redd) who will cherish his memory alongside his beloved grandchildren whom he adored: Kaedyn, Chloe, Cooper, Sofia, and Maya Wilkerson. Julius is also survived by his brother, Marvin Louis Wilkerson, Sr., and his sisters, Judith Ann Drummond, Jacquelyn Bernice McCain, Diane Yvonne Harris, Diedre "Lynne" Wilkerson-Lawrence, and along with several generations of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services and gatherings for family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by burial at West Haven Cemetery, 1145 West Street, New Albany, Indiana.

Contributions in Julius' memory may be made to the Northern Illinois Food Bank (273 Dearborn Court, Geneva, Illinois 60134).
