Frank James Wilkerson, Jr. touched the lives of many through his unwavering, gentle spirit, and dedication to his family and community Born on March 12, 1937, in Memphis, TN, Frank's journey came to a peaceful close on July 19, 2024, in Southaven, MS, after bravely facing a lengthy illness.
In his professional life, Frank was known as a diligent dock worker at Campbell 66 Express for an impressive 30 years. However, it was his presence in the choir at Trinity Baptist Church for over 15 years that truly showcased his passion for music and spreading the word of the Lord. Described by many as always radiating positivity and never speaking ill of others, Frank left a lasting impact wherever he went.
Frank's love for the Lord was evident in every aspect of his life. His voice lifted in song during church services and Gospel singings brought joy to all who heard him. His devotion to maintaining a beautiful yard, gathering with family and friends over meals with Tops BBQ, and cherishing moments with his loved ones underscored his kind and nurturing nature.
Among his proudest accomplishments were his decision to give his life to the Lord in 1978, along with the joy of becoming a father and grandfather. He cherished the time spent with his beloved wife of 68 years, Peggy (Kirby) Wilkerson; sons Randy (Loretta) and Dana Wilkerson; daughters Teresa Wilkes (Tommy), Tina Kreunen (Kim), Cindy Wilkerson; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Carol Cox (Darnell), brother-in-law Wayne Kirby (Janice), sister-in-laws Janice Wilkerson, Shirley Wilkerson, Kathy Gurley, Margaret Sexton, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.
Frank was preceded in death by his brothers John Robert Wilkerson and Albert Eugene Wilkerson and parents Frank James and Christine (Thetford) Wilkerson, Sr. Their memories will forever be treasured alongside the legacy Frank leaves behind.
The visitation and funeral service to honor Frank's life will take place on July 26 at Clearview Baptist Church in Southaven followed by burial at Forest Hill Memorial Park South in Memphis. These services serve as an opportunity for all who knew Frank to come together to celebrate a life well-lived and bid farewell to a remarkable man whose light will continue to shine through the memories he created.
In every melody sung, every garden tended to perfection, and every moment shared with those he held dear, Frank James Wilkerson Jr.'s spirit will live on eternally. May he rest in peace knowing that he was loved deeply by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
