Juvencio Isidore Da Costa, age 75, passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Colaba, Mumbai, he spent his early years at St. Mary's School in Mazgaon before enrolling in the prestigious Dufferin Training, where he began a distinguished career in the Merchant Marine. He rose swiftly through the ranks to become a Ship's Captain, sailing the seven seas and earning deep respect in the maritime industry. His remarkable career spanned 57 years, during which he held leadership positions focused on vessel operations and management.
He met the love of his life Cressy in 1976 at a restaurant in the Taj Mahal and got married in 1978. They sailed around the world until 1983, where he took a shore job managing vessels. Their journey took them across the globe, living in countries such as Cyprus and Canada before making their final home in Houston in 1998 through his job relocation. Together, they raised three children and built a life full of adventure, love, faith and family.
His love for the seas extended well beyond his career. He was an avid swimmer who loved family getaways to Galveston and cherished time spent on cruises with Cressy. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, his greatest joy was from being surrounded by his family. He delighted in Sunday lunches and was especially known for his signature BBQ ribs.
A devout Catholic, Juvencio remained steadfast in his faith throughout his 13-year battle with cancer. His courage, strength, and enduring spirit were a source of inspiration to all who knew him. The family is deeply grateful to the oncology team at MD Anderson for their compassionate care and support.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cressy; his children/ (their spouses) Selwyn (Danica), Candice (Sanjeev), and Goldie (Ruben); and his cherished grandchildren Kailyn, Noah, Asher, Mila, Layla, Maya, Eva and Luca.
He is also remembered with love by his siblings and in-laws, the late Bosco and Rosaline, Savio and Jennifer, Leonora and Basil; and his many nieces and nephews. He is fondly remembered in the hearts of extended family including John and Terry, Lena and Peter, Palmira and the late Arminio, Suzie and Franco, and Ophelia.
Captain Da Costa was a beacon of love, resilience, and quiet strength. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he adored.
