Karen L. Etherton, 60, of Hartville passed away peacefully on July 21, 2023 after a decades-long battle with Crohn's disease. A graduate of Green High School, the Idabelle Firestone School of Nursing and the University of Akron, she spent her thirty-five-year career as a registered nurse. Before her retirement due to illness, she worked in the emergency room at Akron General Medical Center for eighteen years. She loved her family, friends, her church and her books. Karen was steadfast in her support for the Adventure Place child care program at Advent Lutheran Church in Uniontown, serving for many years on its board. Karen also loved the volunteer work she did supporting various programs at Lake Local Schools. Reading brought her great happiness. Sharing and talking about books with her friends was her special joy. She is survived by her husband Steve Etherton, daughter Libby Etherton, as well as, her brothers Steven (Lisa) Mutersbaugh and Robert (Nena) Mutersbaugh, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother Janice Bolin, her stepfather Paul Bolin, her father Dallas Mutersbaugh, and her baby sister Carol Mutersbaugh.
There will be a Celebration of Life service on Monday, July 31, 2023 beginning at 6 PM at Advent Lutheran Church 1516 Edison St NW, Uniontown, Ohio with Pastor Robert Cheyney Jr. presiding. Visitation with the family will begin at 3 pm before the service.
Memorial donations can be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation https://www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org/donate/honors-and-memorials or the Stark County Public Library https://www.starklibrary.org/donate/.
The family would like to thank CCAG CVICU RNs Jamie, Alyssa, and Margaret along with ACNPs Becca and Jillian for the kind and compassionate care they gave Karen in her final days.

To all of Karen´s family- my heart goes out to you with this great loss. Karen and I spent so much of our junior high and high school moments together. And on and off during our having kids years. We spent hours on the phone talking about everything that happened at school that day. When Karen could drive we would go after school and get Hardee´s or A&W, we thought we were so cool because Karen was one of the first to drive! Karen´s family was generous enough to include me in many family gatherings and some vacations. One trip was camping in Hermitage TN and we listened to ABBA the entire trip! Every ABBA song still reminds me of Karen! Way too many memories to name them all but I cherish every memory I have. Karen definitely left a piece of herself behind in Libby and in her nursing career along with her dedication to her church. I will miss her.
