Karen Beth Haak

Karen Beth Haak passed away April 29, 2024 after a battle with cancer.  Karen was born October 27, 1952, in Moberly, Missouri, the daughter of Elbert and Mildred (Major) Haak.

Karen graduated from Moberly High School and attended Moberly Junior College.  Karen received her teaching degree from Northeast Missouri State University. Karen also received her Masters in Teaching from William Woods University. Karen retired from public education after 30 years of teaching at Westran School District.  She retired a 2nd time from public education after working 10 years at Missouri City serving as a special education director.

Karen was not just a teacher - she was a beacon of light for her students. Her love and dedication to educating students with special needs was truly unshakeable. Every single student who had the privilege of being in Karen's classroom over her 40 years of teaching felt her unwavering passion and care. The impact she had on their lives is immeasurable - she touched more hearts and souls than can ever be quantified. Karen was not just a role model, she was a true hero to all those she taught. 

Karen poured her heart and soul into the Missouri Association of Student Councils. Every moment spent with her MASC family was filled with love, laughter, and unbreakable bonds. The friends she made there became family to her. Karen enjoyed the art of knitting, traveling, and spending quality time with her family.  

During her final days, Karen found solace and comfort at Mark Twain Assisted Living in Moberly, Missouri. The staff at this facility weren't just workers - they became her family. They went above and beyond to make her stay unforgettable, showering her with kindness, care, and support. But above all else, they showed her and her family a depth of compassion that touched their souls and brought them immeasurable peace. 

Karen was blessed to receive support and care from the team at Compassus Health.  They provided unwavering kindness and went above and beyond to ensure Karen felt respected and cared for. 

Karen is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Judy Haak Hunt and Sharon Haak; brothers Randy Haak and Kenny Haak and other relatives.Karen is survived by a brother Karl, sister Gayle Haak; nieces Stacey Ingersoll, Lindsay Overfelt, Theresa (Stephen) Hyatt, Karla Haak, Kelly (Cory) Harding; great nieces, great nephew and one great-great nephew whom was the light of Karen’s eyes.

A memorial service will be held at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Moberly, MO, Friday, May 3rd, with a visitation from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 5:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Special Olympics of Missouri (305 Special Olympics Drive, Jefferson City, Missouri 65101)
