The former Karen Maertz was born on July 9, 1941 in Reedsville, daughter of the late Ervin and Mary (Mancoske) Maertz. She was a 1959 graduate of Reedsville High School. In the past Karen worked for the Mirro Company and raised her family in Valders. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren's activities, gardening, and was an avid sports fan.
Survivors include her five children: Scott (Jane) Halverson, IA, Rick (Peggy) Halverson, Valders, Kim (Mike) Mancheski, Valders, Craig Halverson, Manitowoc, Troy (Lisa) Halverson, St. Nazianz; nine grandchildren: Tim (Arica) Halverson, Nick (Leah) Halverson, Matt (Libby) Halverson, Spencer Halverson, Sadie Halverson and her special friend: Kasey, Justin Mancheski, Kayla (Matt) Bartel, Kevin Halverson, Kyle Halverson; two great-grandchildren: Elijah Bartel and Asher Bartel; siblings include: Bernita Dallman, Donald (Mary Kay) Maertz, Faye (Wayne) Rusch, Roger Maertz, Bruce (Sharon) Maertz, Jeff Maertz and his special friend: Ann, Vicky (Jeff) Rolf, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Ervin and Mary Maertz; father of her children: Lee Halverson; three sisters and four brothers-in-law: Shirley (Lowell) Johns, JoAnn (Chuck) Schuh, Janice (Jerry) Mulhaney, Henry "Junior" Dallman; two brothers: Jerry Maertz, Dennis Maertz; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Faith (Wally) Woepse.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the Faith Lutheran Church, 255 West Roosevelt Street, Valders. The Rev. Dan Lyman will officiate. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am.
