Karen Lynn Idol, born on March 3, 1956, in Richmond County, North Carolina, left this world quietly on December 22, 2024, at Hospice Haven in Rockingham, North Carolina. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, and sister whose kindness and welcoming spirit touched everyone she encountered.
Karen had a steadfast career as the former manager of Discount Bait and Tackle, a position that brought her joy as she interacted with the community. Her vibrant personality and big heart made her not just a manager but a friend to many who frequented the store. Karen’s love for spending time with family was the cornerstone of her life. She reveled in the joyous moments shared with her loved ones, creating unforgettable memories that will be cherished forever.
She is survived by her devoted son, Kevin Rowell (Daffney), and her beloved daughter, Angela Kempen. Karen embraced the role of grandmother with warmth and pride, leaving behind grandchildren Tabitha Rowell (Zach Overcash), Tyler Rowell, Dakota Rowell (Emily), McKayla Kempen, Nashton Kranz, great-grandchildren Jaxon Overcash, Emmalynn Rowell, Chance Kempen, and Chloe Kempen and Aria Kranz, and brother Kenny Idol. Her family was her pride and joy, and she found immense happiness in the time spent with them.
Karen was preceded in death by her loving parents, Rev. Dennis Idol and Mildred Oaks Idol, as well as her brothers Gordie Idol, James Idol, Ernie Idol, Lloyd Idol, and sister Mary Hux, alongside sister Linda Barnes. Each of them holds a special place in the hearts of their surviving family members, together forming a cherished lineage filled with love and resilience.
The community is invited to gather to honor Karen’s life. Visitation will take place on Monday, December 30, 2024, from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM, both at Carter Funeral Homes located at 705 S Caroline St, Rockingham, NC 28379.
As we remember Karen, it is with an acknowledgment of the love she spread throughout her life. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness that will resonate in the hearts of her family and friends indefinitely. Her gentle spirit will surely be missed, yet her memory will live on through the stories, laughter, and love she has gifted to all who knew her.
