Karen Scales of Hinsdale Illinois passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, at the age of 86 from complications of dementia. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John Robert Scales, her children Chad (Laura) Scales, Doug (Michelle) Scales, and Kristy (Dan) Craine. She is also survived by her sister Josie (Waldeck) Freeman, and six loving grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Roger Waldeck, and Dorothy (Frey) Waldeck.
Karen grew up in Wauseon, Ohio. She attended the University of Florida and The Chicago Art Institute before marrying her husband John Scales of Archbold, Ohio. Karen was an avid bridge player in college and throughout her life. She was a bridge advocate at The Woman's Athletic Club of Chicago for 25 Years as well as an active board member and on several committees.
Karen was known for her incredible kindness and thoughtfulness, great sense of humor, contagious laugh and engaging personality.
