Karla Maar of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 20, 2025. She was 82 years old and had been battling declining health for more than a year.
Karla was a passionate hiker, photographer, and advocate for human rights. She loved nothing better than to be out on the nearby hiking trails capturing the beauty of the surrounding western North Carolina mountains on film. During her active years, she worked as a technician, having emigrated to the United States as a young adult from her native Austria. Until her health failed, Karla was an active member of her Unitarian Universalist congregation, UUTC, here in Brevard. She will be missed by all who knew her.
