A TIME TO BE BORN
Katherine Campbell was born Catherine Turner on May 28, 1936, in Triadelphia, West Virginia to the late Louis Turner and Vivian Howard. She was the fourth of Vivian's eight children.
EDUCATION
Katherine graduated from Oakfield High School in Oakfield, NY. She went on to pursue a career in nursing. Overcoming all adversity, she graduated from Rochester School of Practical Nursing in 1969 as the only Black student in her graduating class.
LOVE AND FAMILY
On August 26, 1955, Katherine married the late Deacon Archie Campbell. Five children were born to this union: Dolores, Jean, Joan, Trina, and Archie Campbell Jr.
HER LIFE
Katherine was affectionately known as "Kay" or "Kat", but she was best known by those who knew and loved her as "Gaga". She had a 50+ year career in nursing and specialized in long term care. She loved to travel and spend time with her family. She especially enjoyed dancing to the music of James Brown and watching WWE with Ja'Yon. She was a lifelong member of First Genesis Baptist Church, having joined at its inception. She sang in the choir and served on the Trustee Board, Missionary Board, Willing Workers, and Mothers' Board.
Katherine departed this life February 28, 2024. She is predeceased by her husband and parents; sisters, Emma Whitis and Lillian Dunwoody; brothers: George Lewis Turner, Harry Wilson Jr., and Edward Wilson; daughter, Jean Campbell Hill. She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 sisters, Vivian Miller and Shirley Hall; one son, Archie (Grace) Campbell Jr.; 3 daughters: Dolores (Glenroy) Thomas. Joan (Anthony) Baker, and Trina Campbell Smith; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and welcomed her great-great grandchildren, Aspen and Native in late 2023. Gaga loved and adored each of her grandchildren and shared a special "ting" with Alexis, Ja'Yon, Aaliyah and Anylah. Her life was centered around God and her family. She believed in a good work ethic and in pure love. She will be missed.
