Obituary of Katherine Anne Carbaugh
Katherine "Kay" Anne Carbaugh, 77, of Glastonbury, beloved wife of Albert Carbaugh, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. Born on May 3, 1947, in Lewiston, Idaho, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Evan and Margaret Elizabeth (Prout) Steininger.
Kay's early years were marked by her passion for swimming and active participation in 4H, where she earned a trip to Chicago for her exceptional cooking skills. She was an enthusiastic traveler, exploring the world alongside her devoted husband, Albert.
A dedicated member of Saint James Episcopal Church in Glastonbury, Kay volunteered her time to various causes, including the blood drive and Carol's Closet. She also contributed to the 2nd Chance Shop, raised donations for the Women's Shelter in Hartford, and supported Hartford's Meal in the Park. Kay's love for plants and animals was evident in her daily life, and she found joy in reading, walking, and teaching CCD classes.
Kay earned a Master of Science degree from Washington State University. She is survived by her loving husband, Albert, and her daughters, Joan Jaylani of Hamden, along with her children Katherine and Julia DeFrances, and Anne Fagan and her husband Patrick of Cromwell, along with their children Benjamin and Andrew. She was predeceased by her sister, Susan Cowan.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 16, at 11:00 AM at Saint James Episcopal Church, 2584 Main St., Glastonbury. Calling hours will be on Monday, July 15, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. Katie and Burt were members of the St. Dunstan's Bridge League and played a great game of bridge. I rarely beat them! Before I moved off of Neipsic Road, I would Katie walking each day looking about the greenery and the fall colors and listening to the critters and birds. I smiled and waved and watched her enjoying herself. Katie was a sweet, kind, thoughtful woman whom I am glad to have known as a friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, Gloria Jainchill

Albert and family, Kay and I grew up together in Clarkston. The past few years I was blessed by her long distance friendship and her becoming my dear sister in the Lord and prayer partner. She was so giving generous and loving serving God and others . I will dearly miss her & will always remember her sweet smile. Looking forward to eternity and being with her again.
