Funeral services for Katherine "Kathy" Downey, 84, of Hokes Bluff, will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Glencoe Hokes Bluff Funeral Home with Bro. Tony Holland and Bro. Tim Davis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Kat will be laid to rest following the service in Nances Creek Cemetery.
Kat passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Downey; and her parents, Willie Eugene Johnson and Rachel Elizabeth Avery Johnson.
Left to cherish the memory of Kat are her children, Cindy Wren and Chris Downey (Debbie); her sister, Etta Faye Taylor; nieces and nephew, Kaye Porter (Drew), Jack Porter, and Toni Gillespie (Patrick); and a chosen brother, Ronnie League.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Kat attended Liberty Methodist Church in Hokes Bluff. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting in her spare time along with painting, collecting buttons, and watching rodeos and bull riding. Kat had a love for collecting antiques and she and her late husband, Ed, would frequent many antique shows and venues before he passed. During earlier years, Kat worked as an administrator and unit secretary, often accompanying doctors as they saw patients, of which she truly loved. Kat also had a passion for flowers, working for several years with a florist as a primary arranger. To know Kat was to love her. She was an amazing wife, mother, sister, and friend, and will be greatly missed.
