Katherine Ann Khatoonian, 83, of Davis, California, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, caretakers, and German Shepherds.
Kathy was born on April 2, 1942, in Sacramento, California, to the late Samuel and Roxie Yenovkian. She graduated from El Camino high school in 1960, and went straight into beauty college. At 20 years old, she opened her salon, "The Hairem", in the Arden Park area. It was here where she displayed the extreme natural talent she was blessed with. Within the first couple years of opening, Kathy became one of the top hairdressers in the Sacramento area. By 24, she decided to move to Hawaii and teach hair at Liberty House. After a few years in Hawaii, she moved back to Sacramento, and fell in love with Alan Khatoonian. Alan proposed to Kathy in 1972, and they got married the following year. Their wedding took place on May, 6th 1973, in downtown Sacramento, and is still considered one of the most beautiful Armenian weddings to ever take place. Kathy and Alan welcomed their first child, Samuel, on Nov. 1, 1975. A few months later, Kathy was pregnant again, and gave birth to her second son, Michael, on Nov 28, 1976. Once her children were old enough for school, Kathy opened a flower shop in downtown Sacramento named, “Designers Touch". She used her creativity and talent to make flower arrangements and sell gifts at this location for years. She loved to cook and entertain, and always loved having parties at her family home. She cherished being involved in the ACYO, it was a very important part of her life. Kathy was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, and friend to many. She loved the Armenian Church, Jesus, painting, gardening, and telling stories of the past. She had a smile that would light up any room, and was always there to help someone in need. Kathy is survived by her two boys, Sam and Mike, as well as her sisters Janice, Nancy, and Diane. Kathy Khatoonian's funeral service will be held on November 4th, 2025, at East Lawn Cemetery off Greenback Lane and I-80. Viewing is from 11-1pm, service at 1pm, and burial at 2pm.
