Kathleen Barrett Obituary
Kathleen A. Barrett, (Kathy) of Milton, MA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones and her favorite song, on October 4, 2024, at the age of 66. Born on December 14, 1957, Kathy's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and adventure, woven with the threads of her unwavering kindness, her thoughtful, generous nature and her seemingly impenetrable armor of strength, facing even the toughest of challenges with that beautiful smile, sense of humor and without a single complaint. Kathy was the loving and proud mother of Evan Santi (girlfriend Eliza Chiu) of Stoughton. She was the cherished daughter of the late Bridget P. (Walsh) Barrett and James T. Barrett, of Milton, originally from Counties Connemara and Mayo, Ireland, respectively. She was a devoted and beloved sister to Margaret O'Malley (Vincent) of Milton, Eileen Carroll (Danny) of Marshfield, and the late Maryellen Donovan (Paul) of Quincy. She was also preceded in death by her brothers James and Brian Barrett, both of Milton. Kathy's love extended to her nieces and nephews, whom she adored: Ryan O'Malley, Shanna (O'Malley) Armstrong, Bridget (O'Malley) Caldwell of Hanover, Sean Donovan of Texas, and Seamus and Maisey Carroll of Marshfield. She was a loving, fun, and generous grand aunt to 11. Kathy's family circle included her former partner, friend and Evan's dad, Jorge Santi of Quincy, Evan's Grandma Victoria, Aunt Miriam and Uncle Mario. Kathy's role as a loving and doting pup-mom to McLovin brought her immense joy. We would like to thank Kathy's dear friend, Janice Rapoza, CA for her unwavering support through this journey.
Kathy graduated from UMass Amherst where she met some of her best friends to this day. Until her recent retirement, Kathy thoroughly enjoyed her 40+ year career with National Grid, especially due to the vast and strong friendships she's maintained since her early Boston Gas days. Kathy found solace in the beauty of nature, whether during long brisk walks, along Castle Island or Nantasket, gardening, or simply just being outdoors at any opportunity. Her love of Sun, surf and sand guided her to many beautiful destinations, her favorite being Sanibel Island, FL. She was an extremely enthusiastic and often hilarious competitor, especially loving golf, tennis, board games, Wordle, Candy Crush, etc., the common denominator being anything involving friends and family. Kathy's zest for living every day to its fullest was unparalleled. She had a unique gift for turning ordinary days into memorable and often comical experiences. To say that Kathy was loving, kind, and thoughtful would only scratch the surface of the profound impact she had on those who knew her. She had a heart that embraced everyone, a spirit that uplifted everyone, and a presence that will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
As we bid farewell to Kathy, we reflect on a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a love well-shared. Her journey through life was a reflection of everything she so strongly believed in – love, family, friendship, resilience and the simple joys of living. Her memory will continue to inspire us to embrace the beauty of each moment, to cultivate joy in our relationships, and to live with the same passion and enthusiasm that she exemplified every day.
We take comfort in knowing that Kathy's legacy will continue to blossom in the lives she has shaped and the memories she has gifted us. May she rest in peace, with the knowledge that her life was a beacon of happiness and an embodiment of love.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday October 12 at St. Agatha Parish Milton at 10:30am.
