Kathleen (Crimm) Townsend, 95, of Atlantic, Pennsylvania passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at her home. She was born February 4, 1930 in Mannington, West Virginia to James and Effie (Spencer) Crimm.
After graduation from Mannington High School, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio and worked at TAPCO where she met James Townsend. They were married 63 years until his passing August 6, 2021. Jim and Kathy operated Little Mountain Marathon in Mentor for 20 years.
Kathy was a member of The Chardon Corvette Club, Competition Corvette Club and a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association of Meadville and Grove City, Pennsylvania. Kathy raced Powder Puff Stock Cars at Burton Speedway and Cloverleaf Speedway winning many 1st place trophies. She was the first Woman Champion at Cloverleaf Speedway. She did speed events with the Corvette Club and had a speed record at Nelson Ledges Road Course in her class. In later years she took an interest in flying and owning airplanes.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister Irene and sisters Ruth and Betty. She is survived by her son David J. (Wendy) Townsend of Chardon, Ohio, her daughter Lisa (Kevin) Chess of Ashtabula, Ohio and grandson John David Townsend and step grandson Brendon Chess both of Ohio.
A service will be held at the Chapel at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland, Ohio on February 28, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. with her grandson John D. Townsend as the officiant. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Kathleen, please visit our Tree Store.
