Kathryn Jean Feik
December 12, 2024
Kathryn Jean Feik, 66, of Honesdale passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024 at Wayne Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. Kathy had a heart of gold and loved to spoil the ones she loved.
Kathy was born on February 20, 1958, to the late James Clare and Dorothy (Misson) Clare of Temperance, Michigan. She was born into a large family of 9 children.
Kathy was a graduate of Monroe County College and received an associate's degree in commerce. She worked as a paralegal at the Fermi nuclear power plant where she eventually met her husband, William Feik. The two married on August 2, 1986, and had been married 38 years.
Kathy's greatest joy in life was her family. Her home, although small, became a gathering place. The living room was often packed with family members and her children's friends sharing birthday cake and presents. She enjoyed hosting large summer parties with her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, and the backyard would be filled with children playing games and swimming in the pool, and her brothers and sisters talking and laughing with a cold drink.
Kathy enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her gardens and her yard, always taking visitors on a walking tour to show off her newest plants. She was an avid baker and enjoyed creating cookies and memories with her children. Kathy loved reading and could almost always be found with a book in hand. Kathryn was also an expert shopper, constantly on the lookout for the next fancy outfit for her daughters or a neat knick-knack for the house.
She was a restaurant connoisseur and loved sharing a meal with her loved ones. An animal lover, she volunteered at Paws and Whiskers in Toledo, Ohio, and often came home with another furry friend. She also was known to donate to local animal shelters.
The one thing Kathy was put on this earth to do was to be a Mother, not only to her own two daughters but to her nieces and nephews and other children. She encouraged children to just be kids, leading the charge in making up fun games in the pool, inventing silly songs, and dancing around the living room. She liked to take everyone on fun days to the Toledo Zoo, Wamplers Lake, Wild Wood, and the movies. Always a nurturer, she was quick to provide band- aids for scraped knees, chicken noodle soup for runny noses, and homemade chocolate chip cookies for tough days at school.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Lillian McGreevy and Maryann McKnight.
She is survived by her husband, William Charles Feik, Honesdale; two daughters, Lydia Van Gorder and husband Maxim Van Gorder, Paupack; Kaitlin Feik and fiance Robert Grady, Carbondale; and two grandchildren, Greg Van Gorder and Shane Van Gorder, Paupack.
She is also survived by her brothers, Robert Clare (wife Peggy), Patrick Clare, David Clare (wife Dawn), and Richard Clare (wife Donna); her sister Theresa Clare; brothers-in-law, Vince Feik (wife Kathy) and John Feik (wife Pam); her nephews, Dave Clare, Travis Clare, Tommy McGreevy, Thomas Feik, Bobby Clare, Devin Clare, Timothy Feik, Josh Welly, Steven Welly, Nicholas Clare, Danny Becker, Jacob Becker, Matthew Becker, Tyler Lee, Caiden Clare, Allen Meacham, Thomas Meacham, Chase Lee, and Colin Feik; her nieces, Julie Becker, Sarah Clare, Shelley Faulkner, Nicole Lee, Lauren Welly, Lily Lee, Megan Faulkner, Madison Faulkner, Cassandra Meacham, Margaret Becker, Madison Lee, Macie Lee, Sadie Kate Clare, Ava Clare, Rachel Feik, and Sophie Feik.
A memorial of life will be held at Bucks Cove Hunting Club on December 21, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dessin Animal Shelter in Honesdale.
