Kathryn Patterson Stark passed away peacefully from natural causes related to her age in
Roy, Utah, on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born in Roy, July 6, 1932, the daughter of John Alexander Patterson and Fern Alberta Nielson.
Kathryn graduated from Weber High School in 1950 and later received an associate degree. There were 9 children in her family, two died in infancy. Kate was the last surviving of the seven sisters who reached adulthood. The Patterson sisters included Fern, Faun, Kate, Betty, Mary, June, and Fae. They were raised in southwest Roy near the railroad tracks on a little property with a cow to milk and a robust garden to attend to. Her Dad taught her and her sisters how to work and work they did. Her Mom taught them domestic skills, handiwork, and piano.
On July 13, 1956, she married her handsome sweetheart, Jack Stark, in
Elko, Nevada. Jack affectionally called her "KP." They were soulmates and lovebirds in every way. He loved to dance with KP in the kitchen. When they were reunited across the veil, after a tender embrace, they probably danced near to the Pearly Gates to the delight of other loved ones, friends, and family. They shared a life of love and adventure which created many lasting memories.
Kathryn spent over 30 years working in the insurance industry. She was a dedicated and disciplined worker always committed to the details necessary to serve their clients. Jack worked as a truck driver over those years. They both worked hard so they could play hard. They loved to travel the open roads in the mountain states and up in the northwest with their good friends. As a horse lover, Jack, always in full cowboy attire, often made sure their travels ended up at a racetrack. He had a passion for horses and for horseracing. Kate loved being his companion for these exciting events.
A lady with many talents and the discipline to practice and improve, Kathryn's hobbies included creating high quality crocheting, knitting, quilting and embroidery projects. She always loved to read and surrounded herself with good books. Kate was proud of her rural and pioneer roots. She relished her membership in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for 47 years.
She has been described as "one of a kind." Her life was filled with family focus, hard work, faith in God, and giving back. Kate was one that connected with young people, particularly with her nieces and nephews. She was known to reach out to them with a word of encouragement, a pat on the back or a kick in the pants, always wanting the best for them. She was a bold lady never afraid to give her opinion, yet you never doubted her love. Selflessly, she gave monthly donations to young relatives and others serving missions around the globe. Kathryn was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a devoted member and enjoyed teaching and serving in various ward callings.
A year after Jack died in 2010, they were sealed in the Bountiful Temple. In the fall of 2014, Kathryn was called to serve as a Temple ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple. This calling was one of great joy and became one of the highlights of her life. Temple service and regular attendance became the hallmark of her devotion to God and family.
Kathryn, Aunt Kate, leaves behind many extended family members including numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews that she loved dearly. Jack and Kate developed deep friendships. The family wants to extend a special salute of appreciation to Randy and Kathy Carter, good friends and neighbors, for providing so much love and support to Kathryn and Jack over the years.
