Dean Jensen Moyes

August 10, 1927 – August 29, 2025

Dean Jensen Moyes returned to his Heavenly Father on August 29, 2025, with his family surrounding him in love. He spent 98 beautiful years on this earth doing good and serving those he loved.

Dean was born on August 10, 1927, to John Orin and Mable Matilda (Tilly) Moyes in the home of his grandmother in Farr West, Utah. He grew up a boy's boy in Plain City, where his happy childhood was filled with fun, adventure, and a little mischief. He adored his two sisters, Renee and June, and together they shared a lifetime of cherished memories.

Dean attended Plain City schools and graduated from Weber High School. As a child of the Great Depression, he learned early the value of hard work and determination-qualities that remained with him throughout his long life.

On June 25, 1947, Dean married his eternal companion, Shirley Stratford. Together they built a life filled with love, faith, and devotion, sharing 54 wonderful years before Shirley's passing. Their love story was a testament to commitment and joy, and their family was their greatest blessing.

Dean and Shirley were the proud parents of four children:

- Darlene Caldwell (Larry) of Mantua

- Blair Dean Moyes (Ann) of Syracuse

- Robert Moyes (deceased)

- Cindy Combe (Lee) of West Haven

Dean and Shirley's posterity includes 15 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

After Shirley's passing, Dean found love again and married Zelda Hamblin in Ogden on June 6, 2002. Dean and Zelda spent 23 years together, filled with friendship, laughter, travel, and happy memories. They enjoyed going out with friends, playing cards, and sharing a beautiful life together.

Dean worked at Hill Air Force Base on aircraft, where his dedication and strong work ethic earned him many awards and accolades.

A farmer at heart, Dean was wonderfully self-sufficient. He raised cows, chickens, and pigs to provide for his family, and his garden was nothing short of magical. His abundant harvests were always shared with family, neighbors, and friends.

He also loved the outdoors. Camping, fishing, boating, and water skiing were among his greatest joys. Dean was an excellent slalom skier and taught his children and many others the joy of skiing. Around the campfire or the cook stove, he was known for his perfectly grilled trout and hearty meals.

Dean was a lifelong and devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in many callings, including ward clerk, Scoutmaster, and in the Young Men's programs. His favorite calling was serving as a temple ordinance worker in the Ogden Utah Temple, where he found deep joy in service.

Dean's greatest lessons to his children came not in words but through example. His strong work ethic, resilience, and love of family became treasured parts of his legacy.

Dean is survived by his wife, Zelda; his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his son, Robert; and three grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to gather in honor of Dean's life at the following services:- Evening Viewing – Tuesday, September 2, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd.- Viewing & Funeral Service – Wednesday, September 3, at the Wilson LDS Church. Viewing from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m. Dean will be laid to rest in the Plain City Cemetery.

Dean's life was a gift to all who knew him. His kindness, faith, sense of adventure, and selfless love will be remembered always. His influence will continue to bless generations to come.
