AHOSKIE, NC - Kathy Jo Dawson Garrett, a beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 31, 2025, at the age of 55, at her home in Ahoskie, North Carolina. Born on June 20, 1970, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Kathy lived a life filled with love, creativity, and dedication to her family and interests.
Throughout her working years, Kathy held various positions as a security guard, where her diligent work and reliability left a positive mark on each place she served. Beyond her professional life, Kathy was known for her artistic spirit. She found joy in creating arts and crafts, making beautiful jewelry, and designing personalized vinyl decorations on cups. Her crafts were a testament to her creativity and provided joy to those around her.
Kathy's affection extended beyond her human family to her canine companions, as she was an ardent dog lover who cherished the bond she shared with her pets.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Delmo Dawson. She is survived by her husband, Anthony Garrett of Ahoskie; her loving mother, Shirley Dawson of Ahoskie; her sister, Tamula Mullins and husband Ronald of Omaha, NE; her brothers, Jaret Dawson and wife Barbara of Ahoskie, and Joseph Dawson and wife Holly of Courtland, VA. Kathy also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, including Kenny, Christina, Alex, Melanie, Jaret Jr., Stacy, Grady, Shelby, Elijah, Thomas (TJ), Sarah, and Jade. Her extended family and friends will dearly miss her loving presence and generous spirit.
Funeral services for Kathy will be determined at a later time. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and condolences from all whose lives Kathy touched. Online condolences may be made at www.garrettsykesfs.com.
