Velma "Kathy" Shiflett (Mattingly), 74, of Wenatchee, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024, after a long battle with pulmonary ailments.
Kathy was born on December 28, 1949, to Anita Hawes and Jesse Eugene Mattingly in Salt Lake City, Utah. As a child, Kathy moved frequently before finally settling in Wenatchee in 1963. In 1965, she met and married David Shiflett, and together they had three wonderful children: Wendy, Brian, and Cory. Following the birth of their youngest son, Cory, Kathy and David divorced, and Kathy never remarried.
For many years, Kathy worked as a bartender at the South End Tavern and The Igloo. During her time behind the bar, she discovered a talent for pool, eventually joining a pool league where she showcased her skills.
Kathy was known for her optimistic outlook on life, always finding the silver lining despite the challenges she faced. A gifted artist, she enjoyed creating unique yard art from a variety of materials, but her greatest passion was her cats, whom she loved dearly.
Kathy is survived by her children: Wendy Shiflett (Terry Halverson), Brian (Sue) Shiflett, and Cory (Jessica) Shiflett; her grandchildren: Brittany Parkhill, Natasha Parkhill, Dalton(Samantha) Shiflett, Lucas(Mallory) Shiflett, Cody Shiflett, and Lauren Shiflett; and her great-grandchildren: Makyli Thomason, Amari Parkhill, Natalie Putnam, Cameron Shiflett, and Charlotte Shiflett. She is also survived by her lifelong best friend, Sas Alford. Kathy was preceded in death by her granddaughter Jamie and her beloved cats, Crackers and Sweetie.
