Kay Watson, 89, Monrovia, passed away peacefully at home May 28, 2023, in the comfortable and familiar surroundings in which she raised her family and had resided for 70 years. While Kay was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on February 15, 1934, she lived in many towns across the country as a young person because of her father’s work as a newspaper publisher. After settling in Mooresville, Kay graduated from Mooresville High School in 1952 and married the late David R. Watson on June 20, 1952.
In addition to being a farmer’s wife and raising her family of six boys, she was the friendly, capable, and efficient receptionist at Citizens Bank’s Main Branch for 24 years, retiring in 2012. Kay was a strong Christian and an active and loyal member of the Monrovia Christian Church. While David mowed the grass at the church for years, Kay ensured that the church was always clean and presentable for its members. Learning from her mother-in-law, she was an excellent cook, and her family fondly remembers some of her signature recipes like homemade cinnamon rolls, fried chicken, and macaroni and cheese. David’s all-time favorite meal was Kay’s chicken & dumplings. Kay’s memory will be treasured by her loving family and many friends.
In addition to her parents and David, she was preceded in death by sons, Jack, James, and Ted Watson; a brother, Keith Bennett.
Survivors include her sons, Jay (Rori), Roy (Rhonda), and Neal (Melissa) Watson; brother, Kent (Donna) Bennett; sister-in-law, Marjorie Bennett; ten grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren.
Kay’s Life Celebration® Visitation will be Friday, June 2, 2023, 5 to 8 p.m., in the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 12 Noon, Saturday, June 3, 2023, in the Monrovia Christian Church, with additional visitation from 11 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in White Lick Cemetery.
