Keira Jean Duffy, 16, passed away suddenly after being a passenger in a fatal car accident on Sunday, July 2nd, 2023.
Keira was born on July 10, 2006, in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.. She grew up in Golden Valley and attended Meadowbrook Elementary, North Junior High, and Hopkins High School where she would have been a senior in the fall.
In her short life, Keira brought joy to so many around her. A natural leader, a brilliant conversationalist, and kindhearted friend, Keira's combination of truth, wit, compassion, and wisdom drew others of all backgrounds and generations to be close to her. With her beautiful smile, sincere and sometimes silly questions, and infectious laugh, Keira made every space she was in more fun. Keira was passionate about social justice and was interested in majoring in the Humanities and minoring in Religious Studies at New York University, Wisconsin-Madison, or the University of Minnesota to one day become an empathetic and globally minded teacher.
An accomplished musician, creative cook, and gifted writer, Keira embraced life each day and took advantage of every opportunity that she could. Just in the past year she booked her own train trip to New York to see art and theater with her cousin, took road trips to see her uncle and play music and badminton in Wisconsin, camped and had bonfires with her family and friends whenever possible, and explored and often excelled in multiple activities at Hopkins Schools including, basketball, track and field, cross country, violin in the symphony and pit orchestras, ceramics club, philosophy club, and National Honor Society. Keira loved traveling with her AP World History class to Spain and Portugal, attending the National Summit for Courageous Conversations on Race in Washington D.C. attending prom and homecoming events with her dearest friends, playing in the Chamber Orchestra before school, and working with young children in the daycare at the YMCA.
Keira is survived by her parents, Patrick Duffy and Katie York, her older brother, Will Duffy, grandparents, William Duffy and Mary York and many uncles, aunts and cousins who loved her very much. Her spirit lives on as she joins her beloved grandfather Steven Owen York and beloved grandmother Marilyn Abalan Duffy in Heaven. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 11:00 am at Hopkins High School with a private burial to follow at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. We would appreciate flowers or donations to a Keira Duffy memorial scholarship.

Katie- What a beautiful difference a single life can make. Clearly Keira impacted many lives during her time here on earth. Easton was always very excited when he got to see her in your classroom, or at your house when tutoring last summer. My heart goes out to you and your family during this time. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
