Almost 45 years ago, Kelli and I began our friendship, bonded by chocolate chip cookie dough in home ec class. Besides our love of sweets, we also shared a love of nature and enjoyed watching all the animals on my back deck- birds, raccoons, black vultures, and more. She was always interested in my black vulture stories, and I will miss sharing those with her.
I'm blessed that I have been so close with her family as well; they are truly my second family. Growing up, Kel would call on Christmas around 1:30 asking me if we were finished opening up all our gifts, and sometimes I would say, "Almost." After we were finished, I would head over to Gene and Susan's home to enjoy the rest of the day. One year Mom and Dad said it was fine if I had Thanksgiving dinner at Rod's with the rest of the Hinds family. My parents were happy for me to enjoy my other family, and even happier when I brought home leftovers that Melissa had packed up for them.
Kelli always would make me laugh. I am not a phone-talker, but we could chit chat for two hours at a time. Even though we didn't see each other all that often, we'd make the most of our time together. She even became an honorary Pope when she started attending the Pope Reunions.
Pizza King was a wonderful place to eat when we were growing up, and thankfully they are still in business. When we got together, that was often our go-to restaurant, and we would enjoy the few hours we had together, just hanging out.
I'm not ready for Kelli to leave, but I know I will be with her again. Kelli made my life fuller and those lives of everyone who knew her. Love you, Kel!
My love and prayers are with all of you,
Stacy
